What is OFM? Definition, how it works, the numbers and the legal side, by an agency operator who co-founded OnlyChatAI
OFM stands for OnlyFans Management: running, on behalf of a creator, all or part of what turns her content into revenue. I have operated an OFM agency since 2021 and I build OnlyChatAI with my partner, the AI chatter that 900+ active creators run on across our clients. This guide answers the four questions people actually ask (what is OFM, what is an OFM manager, how to start, is it legal), then covers what most guides skip: where the money is made, why a fan does not face the same barriers on OnlyFans and on Telegram, and what the texts say. Every external figure has its source at the bottom of the page; our own figures and market estimates are flagged as such.
1. What is OFM? The two-line definition
OFM (OnlyFans Management) is the professional management of a paid-content creator's business: bringing in fans, replying to them, selling them media in private messages, keeping them and tracking the numbers, for a fee set by contract. The creator produces the content; the agency or the manager runs all or part of the selling. The word comes from OnlyFans, but it now describes the job whatever the channel: OnlyFans, Telegram, MYM, Fansly and the others.
What OFM is not: passive income (it is daily selling), content creation (that is the creator's job), or something limited to OnlyFans.
2. How an OFM agency works
Four blocks. They look equal on paper; they are not in the income statement.
- Launching the creator. Recruiting or creating the profile, setting the frame in writing (what she accepts, what she refuses, revenue share, account access), opening the accounts, writing the persona (way of speaking, limits, vocabulary) and the price ladder.
- Bringing in fans. Neither OnlyFans nor Telegram surfaces a creator's profile to strangers; traffic comes from outside: Threads, Instagram, TikTok, X, Reddit, depending on the niche, with a link to the paid account (where traffic really comes from).
- Selling in private messages: chatting. This is the job. Everyone in the trade knows the proportion: about 10% of revenue from subscriptions, 90% from chatting, meaning paid media (PPV, pay-per-view: a photo or video sent locked, which the fan pays to open), custom content and tips sold inside the conversation. It is what we measure on the accounts we operate. An account at 50% subscriptions is not selling in conversation.
- Keeping fans. Following up with those who go quiet, offering the next step to those who buy, remembering what each one has seen, bought and refused. A small minority of fans makes most of the revenue (fan retention).
3. What is an OFM manager? The roles, and what AI changed
- The OFM manager. Signs creators, sets the strategy, prices and rules, hires and checks the team, reads the numbers every week. When the manager owns the agency, he also carries the fixed costs, the departures and the legal responsibility; in a larger structure, the manager can be an employee.
- The chatter. Holds the private conversations in the creator's place and sells the media. Usually paid a percentage of what he sells (job listings in the sector sit between 5 and 15%, an observation, not a statistic), plus bonuses, plus the cost of hiring, training, scheduling and replacing him. The job is repetitive, shifted onto American nights, and turnover is high (the real cost of chatting).
- The traffic manager. Fills the funnel: social accounts, hooks, teaser content, redirects, measuring what brings fans who pay. In small structures, one person does everything.
What AI changed is the second role. An autonomous AI chatter reads the fan's message, replies in his language, runs the script, sends the locked media, waits for payment confirmation and follows up, 24/7, with no schedule and no turnover. The manager no longer manages chatters: he writes the persona, the scripts, the prices and the rules, and he reads the numbers. In my agency, our creators run 100% AI on Telegram every day, big spenders included; that is an observation on our accounts, not a law of the trade. Hybrid tools, where a human takes over to sell, are a different cost structure (traditional OFM vs AI OFM).
4. Where the money is made: OnlyFans, Telegram, and the fan's barrier
What a fan has to do before he can pay is where the two big channels differ most, and it changes how you sell on each.
On OnlyFans, the fan creates an account on an adult site, registers a card, then pays. Each step loses some of them; those who stay are qualified, and the market is by far the largest: 437 million registered fan accounts, 132 million active (OnlyFans statistics, sourced). On Telegram, the fan is already there, over one billion monthly active users according to Telegram; he writes to the creator's profile and pays in Stars bought inside the app. The entry barrier is close to zero, the selection happens in the conversation, and chatting matters even more.
| OnlyFans | Telegram | |
|---|---|---|
| Before paying, the fan must | Create an account on an adult site, register a card | Buy Stars inside the app, no account or card to create elsewhere |
| Payment method | Bank card | Telegram Stars, via Apple, Google or Fragment |
| What the platform keeps | 20% of every payment | About 35% on a $19.99 in-app purchase (detail below the table) |
| Profile discovery by the platform | None, external traffic | None, external traffic |
| What sells | Subscription, paid media, custom content, tips | Media locked in Stars, inside the conversation |
| Where the fan is selected | At the door | In the conversation |
Stars detail, figures published by Telegram and checked on 11 September 2026: for 1,000 Stars, the fan pays $19.99 in-app (iOS or Android) or $15.00 on Fragment; the creator receives $13.00 of reward value, that is $0.013 per Star, before withdrawal costs. The gap therefore depends on where the fan buys (Stars economics). The two channels do not compete: a creator can keep OnlyFans for the fans who accept the friction and Telegram for those who never will, with the same persona and the same script (OnlyFans vs Telegram).
5. How much it makes, and for whom
What is measured: in the year ended 30 November 2025, OnlyFans paid creators $6.3 billion and kept $1.55 billion of net revenue, with 2.5 million active creator accounts (Fenix International figures reported by Variety; the 2024 accounts, filed at Companies House, showed $5.80 billion paid out). Market estimates put the top 1% of creators at around a third of revenue; dividing the money paid out by the number of accounts says nothing about what a given creator earns (what a creator really makes).
What is not measured: chatter and manager income. Nobody has a measurement of that market; the salary grids that circulate are estimates with no period, country or method, and we will not publish one. There is no "standard" agency commission either: the share is negotiated by contract according to what the agency brings (traffic, chatting, content, strategy).
What can be calculated, on a deliberately hypothetical example: an OnlyFans account that takes $10,000 of sales in a month. OnlyFans keeps 20%, leaving $8,000. With a 50 / 50 contract, the agency keeps $4,000. If human chatters made the sales, they take 5 to 15% of sales, $500 to $1,500, before their management and the coverage gaps. With an AI chatter, selling costs a subscription and a commission: on OnlyChat, $20 per month plus 10% of what the AI sells on OnlyFans, $20 plus 15% on Telegram, for 24-hour coverage (pricing). Traffic, teaser content and tools come on top in both cases. This calculation does not say what "an agency" earns: it shows where the money goes.
6. Traditional OFM, AI OFM, AI chatting: three terms
- Traditional OFM: a real creator, a team of human chatters, a manager. The model that built the sector.
- AI OFM: the term is ambiguous on the market; here it means a creator whose image is AI-generated. The rest of the job does not change: traffic, a consistent persona, a script, selling in conversation. Each platform has its own rules on verifying the account holder's identity and on generated content; it is the operator's job to read them before launching (the detailed comparison).
- AI chatting: the tool that holds the conversation and sells, for a real or a generated creator. That is what OnlyChat does, on OnlyFans and on Telegram (how AI chatting works).
7. Is OFM legal?
Managing the account of an adult, consenting creator is a commercial service activity. What makes it clean comes down to five points, and none is optional. This is not legal advice: the rules depend on the countries where the agency, the creator and the fans live.
- The pimping question, asked plainly. It is the one everyone has in mind, and France gives a clear reference. On 18 May 2022 the Cour de cassation (criminal chamber, appeal no. 21-82.283) held that prostitution "consists in lending oneself, for payment, to physical contact of any kind", and that paid sexual acts performed remotely by webcam, which "involve no physical contact", cannot be treated as prostitution without extending that definition. Content sold online with no physical contact therefore falls outside that definition of prostitution, and organising it outside that of pimping, as the case law currently stands. It does not cover anything that would happen offline, and other countries draw their own lines.
- A registered business and declared income. The agency invoices, keeps books and pays its taxes like any service company; the creator declares her income on her side.
- A written contract with the creator. Revenue share, account access, content ownership, limits, confidentiality, exit terms. A verbal agreement in OFM is a dispute waiting to happen.
- Each platform's rules. OnlyFans verifies creators' identity and holds the account holder responsible for what happens on it. On AI chatbots, one sentence circulated widely as if it came from the OnlyFans Terms of Service; it appears in none of the 296 archived captures of those terms we checked, from 2022 to 2026. The rule exists elsewhere, in the help center, in a narrower form, quoted word for word in our investigation. On Telegram, the Terms of Service forbid illegal pornographic content on publicly viewable surfaces (channels, bots), the FAQ states that private chats are private between their participants, and no text specifically allows or forbids adult media sold in a private conversation (the Telegram rules, quoted).
- Fans' data. First name, purchase history, preferences: this is personal data, and sexual preferences are sensitive data under the GDPR (CNIL definition in the sources). It is collected with a legal basis, protected, and not shared outside the team. That is the subject of the US proceedings still under way: OnlyFans subscribers filed a class action claiming they had paid to talk to creators when they were talking to chatters. In late May 2026, a federal court in California dismissed most of the claims against the platform but let a claim proceed against the agencies that manage creators and chatters, over the sharing of personal information (Mealey's, 29 May 2026).
8. How to start in OFM in 2026
Order matters more than speed. This is the order I follow when I launch a creator, and the one taught in the Academy.
- Learn chatting before delegating it. Hold the first conversations yourself, even for a week: you cannot configure an AI or judge a result in a job you have not practised.
- One creator, one platform, until it runs.
- The frame in writing, before the first dollar: contract, limits, access, share.
- One traffic channel, worked every day. Threads, Instagram, TikTok, X or Reddit depending on the niche. Pick one, measure where the paying fans come from, diversify only afterwards.
- Write the persona, the script and the prices. Welcome, discovery of the fan, free teasers, paid media at rising prices, follow-ups, and the limits: what is never said, what is never promised. A floor price you never go below (setting your prices).
- Measure before automating. Reply rate, unlock ratio, revenue per fan, retention, every week. Automate what is stable.
- Add Telegram once OnlyFans runs. Same persona, same script, a channel where the fan has no barrier at the door (OnlyFans + Telegram).
9. Limits of the numbers, and what we observe
- Passive income does not exist here. An AI makes presence automatic; the persona, the scripts, the prices and the traffic remain daily work.
- Published pay figures compare badly without a period, a country or a method. Read them as orders of magnitude, never as a plan.
- On our accounts, automation also covers the big spenders, with a human able to step in on any fan if he wishes. These observations are specific to our accounts; what holds for you is measured on yours.
10. The questions people ask
What is OFM?
OFM stands for OnlyFans Management: running, for a paid-content creator, all or part of fan acquisition, private conversations, media sales, retention and reporting, for a fee set by contract. The creator produces, the agency sells. The term now applies to OnlyFans, Telegram, MYM, Fansly and the other platforms.
What is an OFM manager?
The person who runs the operation: signs creators, sets the strategy, prices and rules, hires and checks the team (or configures the AI that replaces it) and reads the numbers every week. When the manager owns the agency, he also carries the costs, the departures and the legal responsibility; in a larger structure, the manager can be an employee.
How do you start in OFM?
In this order: learn chatting yourself, one creator on one platform, a written contract, one traffic channel worked every day, a persona and a script with prices, weekly measurement, then automation of what is stable and adding Telegram once OnlyFans runs.
Is OFM legal?
Managing the account of an adult, consenting creator is a commercial service activity, provided the business is registered, income is declared, there is a written contract, each platform's rules are respected and fans' data is handled under the GDPR where it applies. In France, the Cour de cassation held in 2022 that paid sexual acts performed remotely, with no physical contact, are not prostitution, which rules out pimping for their organisation as the case law stands. In the United States, a class action continues against agencies over the sharing of fans' personal information. This is not legal advice.
What is the difference between OFM and AI OFM?
Traditional OFM manages a real creator with human chatters. AI OFM, an ambiguous term, here means a creator whose image is AI-generated; the rest of the job (traffic, persona, script, selling in conversation) is identical. AI chatting is a third term: the tool that holds the conversation and sells, for a real or a generated creator.
How much does an OFM agency take?
There is no standard percentage: the share is negotiated by contract according to what the agency brings. What is fixed is what the platform keeps first: 20% of every payment on OnlyFans; on Telegram, the gap between the Stars price paid by the fan ($19.99 per 1,000 in-app, $15.00 on Fragment) and the $0.013 per Star credited to the creator.
Can you run OFM without chatters?
Yes. An autonomous AI chatter holds the conversations, sends the paid media, waits for payment confirmation and follows up, 24/7, from the creator's account. In our agency, our creators run 100% AI on Telegram every day; on OnlyFans, a human can take over any conversation and then hand it back to the AI.
Run your creators' chatting with an AI that sells, on OnlyFans and on Telegram, and keep control of any fan.
